#nomakeupselfie: A follow up

To follow up from last week’s post, I found this article in my Twitter feed this afternoon. Women have started using their #nomakeupselfie to raise money for cancer research, but the cancer organizations aren’t too fond of being associated with the challenge. Is being “brave” and posting a photo of yourself on your Facebook page with no makeup on the same as fighting cancer? No. The sentiment is right, but the actual execution seems a little off to me.

Read the CTV Calgary News article here, and read the post by U.K. blogger Yomi Adegoke here.

Thoughts? Is this a good way to raise money for a cause that touches almost everyone these days?

  1. If a person thinks or feels thst posting a selfie without makeup is a sacrifice and actually contributes dollars to a worthy cause, who are we to judge their motivation or intent. Are they minimizing the pain experienced by the cancer patient? I hope not.
