Sensationalizing the unsensational

I’m sure you’ve seen it – Casey Anthony and her trail and acquittal all over the news here in Canada (and I’m sure in the US and other parts of the world as well). The thing is, I don’t understand why we care at all. This is a woman who was charged with murder of her young daughter, lied to police, went to jail for a bit (for lying to police) and was just released.

Why is it all over the news? Why is it such a big deal? Why are we making something out of what really is nothing? This story is no different than any stories we hear across Canada or the world on a fairly regular basis (which I know is sad). Why do we care about this one nobody, now? Why is her story more important than the story of anyone else in the same situation? And why do we keep focussing on these people who have done (or people think they have done)horrible things?

If we stop paying attention to them, they are nothing.
