How do you encourage engagement?

I have a challenge at work.  Part of my job is to educate the broader company community about who are department is and what we do.  So, to help build my tactical plan, I started a discussion on the company’s internal employee forum/blog/time-wasting-permitted site, asking employees across the country what they know about our department.  I posted this on Friday.  I have yet to receive a response.  I find it surprising in some ways, because every day, hundreds of people post comments on other conversations and blogs, or start their own conversations.  Why is no one interested in participating in this conversation?  How do I help people understand what we are here to do, if they are so dis-engaged from the matter all together.    Do I keep re-posting the conversation, so it is constantly top of the page when people log on?  I don’t want to piss people off, but this is a little ridiculous!

I knew this job wouldn’t be easy, but I didn’t think it would be this challenging…
